about

Amy Dimenna is a artist based in Simpsonville, South Carolina. Before fully dedicating herself to art, she built a corporate career focused on understanding human behavior, relationship-building, and the emotional and psychological dynamics that shape loyalty, identity, and connection.

This sustained focus on human motivation and interpersonal connection now informs her creative practice. Her work reflects a feminist sensibility, emphasizing emotional presence and agency over idealized representation.

Her pieces invite pause, intimacy, and reflection — constructed to be experienced as much as observed.

Artist Statement

My ceramic sculptures focus on the textile that contains the
body, where fabric becomes both structure and symbol. Through these works, I
explore the relationship among heritage, lived experience, and identity as
something that persists beyond the body - the garment holds memory.
Each sculpture is hand-built using porcelain,
combining slabs and coils. The slabs are rolled thin to create fluid, flowing
forms. Layers of colored slips, oxides, stains, and underglazes are embedded
beneath the surface, allowing color to emerge subtly through the exterior. The
work is then overfired, creating a self-glazed surface that fuses fragility
with resilience.
I am drawn to the “fabric” appearance for its
ability to hold delicacy and strength simultaneously. It absorbs movement,
touch, and time, embracing imperfection. For me, clothing converts my
vulnerability into empowerment. It’s how softness can endure, how memory is
carried forward, and how transformation often reveals itself in subtle, unseen
ways.
